Dr. Asham graduated from Assiut University Medical School with honors. After completing his military service as a lieutenant, he went to England where he obtained M.D. from the University of London. His doctorate thesis was on the role of endothelin in colorectal cancer liver metastases (secondary tumors). His dissertation is archived at the British Library. During his training in England he was admitted after examination to the fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow. He crossed the Atlantic to train under Dr. Thomas Starzl, the pioneer of modern liver surgery and transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Asham is an attending surgeon at The Methodist Hospital, Texas Medical Center, Houston. He also takes care of patients at Herman Memorial SE & Pearland and HCA Clear Lake. He has published many peer reviewed articles and abstracts as well as book chapters on various surgical topics and research. He also reviews surgical papers for the editorial board of the World Journal of Surgery.
Dr. Asham is a member of the research committee of the American Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association (AHPBA), and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) , Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow and member of Texas Medical Association (TMA).
Dr. Asham believes that we are all endowed special gifts by the creator t to serve one another and make this world a better place. His interest in medical mission and love for the underprivileged took him to Africa, The Middle East and Latin America where he volunteers to perform surgical procedures for the needy and trains local surgeons.
Dr. Asham is married to Christine. He enjoys hiking and skiing, photography, reading classic history, philosophy of science and bioethics.
